Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine
Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of Rauvolfia vomitoria, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking Rauvolfia vomitoria with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here is the piece to pay attention to: the phenylephrine in Tanamine is a decongestant that works by tightening blood vessels, which can nudge your blood pressure up. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a yohimbine-like compound that can also stimulate the body and raise blood pressure. Put them together and those effects may stack, so you could see a bigger jump in blood pressure, a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, or trouble sleeping.
I want to be honest that this concern is theoretical, based on how these ingredients behave rather than firm studies. Still, because blood pressure is involved, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you already deal with high blood pressure or heart issues.
