Tiratricol and Selumetinib Sulfate

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Selumetinib Sulfate

Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tiratricol interacts with.

Theoretically, tiratricol might increase the hypoprothrombinemic effects of oral anticoagulants.
Tiratricol is related to thyroid hormones such as levothyroxine. The hypoprothrombinemic effects of oral anticoagulants, including warfarin (Coumadin), are increased by levothyroxine due to increased catabolism of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. It is not known if tiratricol has a similar effect.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the honest catch with this one: the interaction we have on file is about blood thinners like warfarin, and selumetinib (Koselugo) isn't a blood thinner or antiplatelet drug. It's a kinase inhibitor that slows the growth of nerve tumors in NF1. So this particular tiratricol warning doesn't really line up with how selumetinib works, and I wouldn't apply it directly here.

The bigger concern, frankly, is tiratricol itself. It's a synthetic thyroid-like compound the FDA has warned people not to use, and it can cause fast heart rate, palpitations, and other heart and thyroid trouble. With a child on cancer-type therapy, please don't add this. Talk with your pharmacist or your child's specialist before combining anything new.

About Tiratricol

What is Tiratricol?

  • Weight loss
  • Fat burning
  • Boosting metabolism
  • Bodybuilding and cutting
  • Thyroid-related supplementation

Tiratricol (also called TRIAC) is a powerful synthetic thyroid hormone metabolite, not a natural herb, and it has been illegally added to some weight-loss and bodybuilding supplements. It can cause serious heart and thyroid problems, and the U.S. FDA has warned consumers not to use products containing it. It is not a safe or approved dietary supplement, and you should avoid it.
