Timolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the gist: tree turmeric (mainly its active piece, berberine) seems to lower blood pressure a bit on its own. Timolol is a beta blocker that also brings your blood pressure and heart rate down. So when you pair them, their effects can stack up. The concern isn't that berberine changes how your body breaks Timolol down, it's simply that two blood-pressure-lowering agents together may push things too low.

In real life that could mean feeling dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly. Keep in mind this is mostly based on animal studies and one study with a different drug, so the evidence is on the weaker side. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your Timolol on your own.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for timolol. Your body clears this beta blocker mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Berberine, the active ingredient in tree turmeric, appears to slow that enzyme down. When clearance slows, timolol can build up a bit more than expected, which may make its effects stronger.

In practice that could mean your heart rate dropping too low, more lightheadedness, fatigue, or blood pressure running lower than planned. Keep in mind this is theoretical and based on lab work plus some early human data, so it may not happen to everyone. Still, since timolol acts on your heart, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

About Timolol

What Is Timolol Used For?

Brand names: Blocadren, Timol, Timoptic

Timolol is available in ophthalmic (eye) forms and as an oral tablet, and each form has its own approved uses. Ophthalmic formulations — including Betimol, Istalol, Timolol GFS, Timolol hemihydrate, Timolol Maleate eye drops, and Timolol Maleate Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution — are used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in people with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Timolol Maleate tablets are used orally for three separate conditions: treating high blood pressure (alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines), reducing the risk of death and repeat heart attack in people who have survived a heart attack and are clinically stable, and preventing migraine headaches.
