ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen
Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.
Yerba mate contains caffeine. Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, it might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents; however, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it. This product (Advil Dual Action) pairs ibuprofen with acetaminophen. The ibuprofen part already has a mild blood-thinning, antiplatelet effect, which is why it can sometimes cause stomach upset, ulcers, or easier bruising and bleeding. The caffeine in yerba mate has been shown in lab dishes to also nudge platelets a bit, so in theory it could add to that bleeding tendency.
The honest truth: this is only a theoretical concern. It has not actually been reported in people, and a few cups of mate are unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you take this combo often or notice unusual bruising, dark stools, or stomach pain, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen page
“Advil Dual Action pairs ibuprofen, an NSAID with built-in stomach-bleeding risk, and acetaminophen, which the liver processes, so this interaction list deserves a careful read, not a skim. Most of the entries can add to bleeding risk, while smaller clusters put extra strain on the liver or kidneys.”

About Yerba Mate
What is Yerba Mate?
- Energy and alertness
- Weight loss
- Mental focus
- Digestive support
- Antioxidant support
Yerba mate is a caffeine-containing herbal beverage from South America that is widely enjoyed for its stimulating, coffee-like effects. While it is rich in antioxidants and is being studied for weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol, strong human evidence for most health claims is limited. Drinking very hot mate over many years has been linked to higher risk of certain cancers, so enjoy it warm and in moderation.
