Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP1A2 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence shows that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP1A2, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the gist for Librium (chlordiazepoxide). Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 as one route to clear this medication. In test-tube studies, bacopa has been shown to mildly slow that enzyme down. In plain terms, if that slowdown happened in a real person, chlordiazepoxide could hang around a bit longer and feel stronger, meaning more drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, or unsteadiness.

The good news: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab data, and the research is actually mixed, with some studies suggesting no meaningful effect at all. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you notice extra sedation.

Here's the honest picture: this interaction is mostly theoretical, based on how these two might behave in the body rather than on solid human studies. Bacopa may gently raise levels of acetylcholine (a brain messenger) by slowing the enzyme that breaks it down. Some medicines with anticholinergic activity work in the opposite direction, so on paper the two could blunt each other a little.

For chlordiazepoxide (Librium), though, I'd put this fairly low on your worry list. Its main job, calming anxiety and easing alcohol withdrawal, comes from boosting GABA, not from blocking acetylcholine, so any push and pull here is likely small. Still, if you notice your Librium feels less effective, or you feel extra drowsy or off, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms in acute alcoholism, and to reduce apprehension and anxiety before surgery.

Note that everyday stress and tension do not usually require an anxiety medication like this one. Long-term use beyond 4 months has not been well-studied, so your prescriber should periodically check whether it is still the right fit for you.
