Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP1A2 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence shows that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP1A2, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the gist for riluzole. Your liver relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear this drug. In lab dish studies, bacopa has shown it might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, riluzole could build up in your body and you might notice more of its usual side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, tiredness, or stomach upset.

That said, this is mostly theoretical. The test-tube research is mixed, and some of it suggests bacopa's effect on this enzyme probably isn't strong enough to matter. There are no real patient reports of a problem. Still, since riluzole already taxes your liver, it's worth running this by your pharmacist or doctor before adding bacopa.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
