Losartan Potassium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's something worth knowing about losartan (Cozaar): your body actually has to convert it into its main active form, partly using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest chanca piedra can slow that same enzyme down. So in theory, blocking CYP3A4 could mean less of losartan's active form gets made, which might soften its blood-pressure-lowering effect rather than boost it.

The honest truth, though, is that this is only seen in test-tube research, not in real people, and losartan has a backup pathway too. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you start chanca piedra, keep an eye on your home blood pressure readings and loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Here's the simple version: chanca piedra has been studied as a possible mild blood pressure helper. Since your losartan (Cozaar) already works to bring your blood pressure down, stacking the two could, in theory, push it a little lower than you want. That might leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when you stand up quickly.

The good news is this concern is mostly theoretical. In one short human study, people with high blood pressure taking chanca piedra didn't actually see much of a drop, and the lowering effect mainly showed up in animals. So a real problem is unlikely. Still, if you decide to try it, it's smart to check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

About Losartan

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Keeping blood pressure under control lowers the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged heart muscle). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients. Additionally, losartan treats diabetic nephropathy — kidney damage caused by type 2 diabetes — in people who also have high blood pressure.
