Methazolamide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with diuretics might increase diuresis.
Some preliminary clinical research in adults with hypertension shows that chanca piedra has diuretic properties. However, higher quality research in adults with kidney stones shows taking chanca piedra does not increase urine volume when compared with placebo. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking diuretic drugs.

Here's the gist for your glaucoma medicine. Methazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and one of its side effects is acting a bit like a water pill, so it makes you urinate more. The concern on file is purely theoretical: chanca piedra has been used as a folk 'diuretic,' so in theory pairing the two could add up and make you lose a little more fluid.

Honestly, the evidence here is thin. Some early studies hint at a mild diuretic effect, while better research in kidney stone patients showed no real change in urine output. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth watching for extra dehydration, dizziness, or tingling. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Here's the simple version. Chanca piedra has shown a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect in animal studies, and methazolamide (Neptazane) can act a bit like a water pill, nudging blood pressure down too. Put them together and, in theory, those small effects could add up.

The good news is that this is mostly theoretical. When people with high blood pressure actually took chanca piedra for about 10 days, researchers didn't really see a meaningful drop. So for most folks taking methazolamide for glaucoma, this isn't likely to cause trouble. Still, if you notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or unusual tiredness, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
