Olanzapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract increases CYP1A2 activity. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for olanzapine (Zyprexa). Your liver relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear this medication out of your body. Lab studies hint that chanca piedra may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could break down olanzapine a little faster, which might lower the amount in your blood and make it work less well. In practice that could mean your symptoms (mood swings, racing thoughts, or other things olanzapine keeps in check) aren't as well controlled.

I want to be honest, though: this is only seen in test-tube research, never reported in actual patients, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since olanzapine is a brain medication you don't want to undertreat, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra.

About Olanzapine

What Is Olanzapine Used For?

Brand name: Zyprexa

Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.

Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
