Propafenone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract increases CYP1A2 activity. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for propafenone (Rythmol). Lab studies hint that chanca piedra may speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear propafenone. If that happened in real life, your body could break down the drug a little faster, leaving lower levels in your blood. For a rhythm-control medicine like this, weaker levels could mean it doesn't keep your heartbeat steady as well, so you might notice your old palpitations or irregular beats creeping back.

The good news is this is theoretical, seen only in test-tube research and never reported in actual patients. Still, propafenone is a medication where small changes matter, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

About Propafenone

What Is Propafenone Used For?

Brand names: Rythmol, Arythmol

Propafenone is used to help control abnormal heart rhythms. It is prescribed to delay the return of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (episodic irregular heartbeats in the upper chambers) and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT, sudden fast heartbeats starting above the heart's lower chambers) — but only in people who do not have structural heart disease.

It is also used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (dangerous fast rhythms starting in the heart's lower chambers). Because of serious safety concerns, it is not recommended for minor or non-life-threatening heart rhythm problems.
