Selexipag falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that methyl brevifolincarboxylate, a constituent isolated from chanca piedra, can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to know about pairing chanca piedra with Selexipag (Uptravi). Selexipag works by relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, and one of the known things it can do is mildly affect how your blood clots and cause some bleeding-type effects like nosebleeds or easy bruising. Chanca piedra has a plant compound that, in a lab dish only, slowed platelets from sticking together.

So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher. But I want to be honest with you: this is purely theoretical, based on test-tube research, and it has never actually been reported in people. I'm not telling you to avoid it, just to mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since PAH is a serious condition you don't want to disrupt.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Here's the simple version: chanca piedra may, in theory, nudge your blood pressure down a little. Since Selexipag (Uptravi) also relaxes blood vessels, the worry is that the two together could lower your blood pressure a bit more than expected. If that happened, you might feel things like lightheadedness, dizziness, a faster heartbeat, or a headache.

The good news is this concern is mostly theoretical. It comes from animal studies, and when people with high blood pressure actually took chanca piedra for 10 days, most didn't see a real drop. So this is rated minor and unlikely. Still, since PAH is serious, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra, and don't change your Selexipag on your own.

About Selexipag

What Is Selexipag Used For?

Brand name: Uptravi

Selexipag tablets are used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group I) — a type of high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. The goal is to slow the disease from getting worse and to reduce the chances of being hospitalized because of PAH.

Uptravi (selexipag) tablets are approved for both adults and children aged 2 years and older. Uptravi for injection (intravenous) is also available for adult patients who are already on Uptravi tablets but temporarily cannot take medicine by mouth.
