Why this applies to Ethinyl estradiol, Levonogestrel

Theoretically, estrogens might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Here's the thing to know with Lybrel (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel): it's the birth control pill that affects your coffee, not the other way around. The estrogen in this pill can slow down how your liver clears caffeine, so caffeine tends to hang around in your body longer than usual.

In plain terms, your morning cup may hit harder and last longer. You might notice more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired and anxious. The good news is your pill still works fine, and this won't make your birth control less effective. If you feel extra buzzed, simply easing back on coffee usually does the trick. Anyone who is pregnant or very sensitive to caffeine should chat with their pharmacist or doctor.

CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS

Ethinyl estradiol, Levonogestrel also falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the effects and adverse effects of caffeine found in coffee.
Coffee contains caffeine. Oral contraceptive drugs can decrease caffeine clearance by 40% to 65%.

Here's a little twist worth knowing: it's not your birth control pill (Lybrel) that gets affected here, it's the caffeine in your coffee. The estrogen in your pill (ethinyl estradiol) can slow down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40 to 65 percent. In plain terms, the same cup of coffee can hang around longer and hit a bit harder than it normally would.

So if you notice more jitters, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired after your usual amount, that's likely why. Your pill still works fine for preventing pregnancy. You may just want to ease up on the caffeine. If it bothers you, chat with your pharmacist or doctor about a comfortable amount.
