Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHENOTHIAZINES
Why this applies to Isopropamide, Prochlorperazine
Isopropamide, Prochlorperazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Coffee interacts with.
Coffee contains caffeine. Phenothiazines can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). Additionally, the tannins in coffee may bind to phenothiazines in the gastrointestinal tract and reduce their absorption.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Combid combines isopropamide with prochlorperazine, and the prochlorperazine part is the phenothiazine we're talking about here. There are two small things going on. First, phenothiazines can slow down how your body clears caffeine, so a strong coffee habit could leave more caffeine in your system, which might leave you feeling jittery, restless, or with a racing heart and trouble sleeping. Second, the tannins in coffee may bind to the medicine in your stomach and slightly lower how much you absorb, possibly making it work a bit less well.
Keep in mind this is theoretical, based mostly on lab data, and rated minor. For most people, normal coffee is fine. If you drink a lot, spacing it from your dose and chatting with your pharmacist is a smart move.
