Theoretically, cola nut might reduce the effects of phenobarbital and increase the risk for convulsions.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Animal research suggests that caffeine can decrease the anticonvulsant activity of phenobarbital. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: barbiturates like phenobarbital, butabarbital, and secobarbital are sedatives that calm down the nervous system. In phenobarbital's case, that calming effect is also what helps prevent seizures. Cola nut is essentially a caffeine source, and caffeine is a stimulant that works in the opposite direction. So the worry is that the caffeine could partly counteract the medication, leaving you with weaker sedation or, with phenobarbital, less protection against seizures.

I'll be honest with you, though: this concern comes from animal studies, and it has not actually been shown to happen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over a normal soda or a cup of coffee. If you're thinking about a concentrated cola nut supplement, please run it by your doctor or pharmacist first, especially since seizure control is too important to gamble with.
