STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Pseudoephedrine Sulfate
Pseudoephedrine Sulfate falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Cola Nut interacts with.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: both cola nut and pseudoephedrine are stimulants, and stacking them can add up. Cola nut's main active ingredient is caffeine, while pseudoephedrine (Drixoral N.D., Afrinol) revs up your system to shrink swollen nasal blood vessels. Taken together, you may notice a stronger jittery feeling, a faster or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, restlessness, or a bump in blood pressure.
This isn't about one supplement changing how your body breaks down the other. It's really just two stimulants pulling in the same direction. The concern here is based on expert reasoning rather than hard studies, so it's fairly mild for most healthy people. Still, if you have heart issues, high blood pressure, or you're sensitive to caffeine, check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pseudoephedrine Sulfate page
“Most people reach for pseudoephedrine (Afrinol, Drixoral N.D.) for a stuffy nose without much thought, often with their usual coffee, tea, or a weight-loss supplement nearby, and that casual pairing is where the trouble sits. About Cola Nut
What is Cola Nut?
- Energy and alertness
- Mental focus
- Physical performance
- Weight loss support
- Traditional digestive aid
Cola nut is a caffeine-containing seed from West Africa used mainly as a natural stimulant for energy and alertness. Most of its effects come from caffeine, and strong human evidence for specific health benefits is limited. Because of its caffeine content, people sensitive to stimulants and those who are pregnant or have heart conditions should be cautious.
About Pseudoephedrine
What Is Pseudoephedrine Used For?
Brand names: Drixoral N.D., Afrinol
Pseudoephedrine temporarily relieves nasal congestion and sinus pressure caused by the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Most products also relieve sinus congestion and pressure, and help restore easier breathing through the nose.
Children's Sudafed oral solution additionally promotes nasal and/or sinus drainage. The Nasal Decongestant tablet specifically notes that it temporarily restores freer breathing through the nose.
