This combo pill mixes acetaminophen, butalbital, and codeine for tension headaches. The interaction on file is about ephedra possibly speeding up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which could clear certain drugs faster. Honestly, this matters very little for this particular medicine, since none of its three ingredients lean heavily on CYP1A2. The evidence here is also weak, coming only from lab and animal studies, so it stays theoretical.

The bigger real-world worry is mixing a powerful stimulant like ephedra with a product containing codeine and a barbiturate (butalbital). Ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason, and stacking stimulants with sedating, drowsiness-causing drugs is hard on the heart. The combo you're asking about (Phrenilin #3) contains acetaminophen, which is the piece that matters here. Acetaminophen is processed by your liver, and in higher doses it can stress liver tissue. Ephedra supplements have been tied to a number of real liver injury cases on their own, so the worry is that pairing the two could add up and put extra strain on your liver.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how each affects the liver, not something proven in studies. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Honestly, since ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements and carries serious heart and stroke risks anyway, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using anything containing it.
