Eribulin Mesylate falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, ephedra might have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Even in healthy volunteers, EKG changes including prolonged QT interval and premature atrial contractions have been reported with ingestion of recommended doses of ephedra. Ephedra may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here's the concern with combining ephedra and your eribulin (Halaven) treatment. Eribulin can stretch out the heart's electrical recovery time, something we call QT prolongation on an EKG. Ephedra's stimulant compounds (ephedrine and pseudoephedrine) can do the same thing, even at typical doses. When you stack them together, that effect can add up and raise the risk of a dangerous irregular heartbeat.

This isn't about ephedra changing how your body breaks down eribulin. It's two things pulling the heart in the same risky direction. On top of that, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Talk with your oncology team or pharmacist so they can keep your heart rhythm safe during chemo.

What Is Eribulin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Halaven

Eribulin mesylate injection (brand name Halaven) is used to treat metastatic breast cancer in patients who have already received at least two prior chemotherapy regimens for metastatic disease, including an anthracycline and a taxane. It is also approved for unresectable or metastatic liposarcoma in patients who have received a prior anthracycline-containing regimen.

Both uses are for advanced cancers that have already been treated with other therapies. This is not a first-line treatment — it is used when the cancer has progressed despite earlier chemotherapy.
