Insulin determir falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ephedra with antidiabetes drugs might interfere with blood glucose control.
One study in animals shows that some components of ephedra may lower blood glucose levels. However, most human research suggests that ephedra and ephedrine, a component of ephedra, can raise blood glucose levels and might decrease the effectiveness of drug therapy. Monitor blood glucose concentrations closely.

Here's the practical picture with Levemir (insulin detemir): the stimulants in ephedra, mainly ephedrine, tend to raise blood sugar. That can work against the very thing your insulin is trying to do, which is bring your glucose down. In real-world terms, your numbers might run higher than usual, and the insulin dose that normally controls things may not feel like enough.

Most of the human evidence points toward higher blood sugar, though it's not rock-solid (one animal study even hinted at lower sugar). On top of that, ephedra carries its own serious heart and blood pressure risks and isn't recommended at all. If you ever did use anything ephedra-related, check your glucose more often and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing any insulin dose.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
