Here's the concern when ephedra is paired with a medication that can stress the liver. Ephedra-containing supplements have been tied to many reports of liver injury, so the worry is simply additive strain on your liver. The idea here is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than proven cases with this exact combination, so I don't want to alarm you. It's also worth noting that ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements, and we don't recommend using it at all.

One important point: your drug list mentions both methenamine mandelate and methimazole, which are very different medicines. Methimazole (a thyroid drug) can occasionally affect the liver. Please confirm with your pharmacist exactly which medication you take so we can give you accurate guidance.

What Is Methimazole Used For?

Brand names: Mandelamine, Methimazole

Methimazole tablets are used in adults and children with hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid) due to Graves' disease or toxic multinodular goiter when surgery or radioactive iodine is not the right option. They work to lower thyroid hormone levels and ease symptoms.

Methimazole tablets are also used to bring thyroid hormone levels down before a patient undergoes thyroidectomy (thyroid surgery) or radioactive iodine treatment, making those procedures safer.
