Here's the thing to know about your birth control pill (Desogen, Ortho-Cept, Marvelon) and green coffee. The estrogen part, ethinyl estradiol, actually slows down how your body clears caffeine. Since green coffee supplements contain caffeine, that caffeine can hang around longer and build up a bit more than usual.

In real life, that may mean you feel the caffeine more strongly: a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. It does not make your birth control less effective, and this is more of a comfort and tolerance issue. The effect is bigger with concentrated supplement doses than with a normal cup of coffee. If you notice the buzz feels stronger than expected, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Here's the thing to know about pairing green coffee with your birth control pill (Desogen, Ortho-Cept and similar). This isn't about the pill becoming weaker or stronger. Instead, the estrogen in your pill actually slows down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40% to 65%. Since green coffee contains caffeine, it can hang around longer and hit harder.

In plain terms, you may feel more of the usual caffeine effects: jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired. If you also drink regular coffee, energy drinks, or soda, that adds up. Your contraceptive protection itself isn't reduced. If you notice these stimulant symptoms, ease back on caffeine and check with your pharmacist or doctor.
