ESTROGENS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Drospirenone, Ethinyl Estradiol

Drospirenone, Ethinyl Estradiol falls under ESTROGENS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, estrogens might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence B

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Here's something a lot of people don't realize: the estrogen in your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol part of Yasmin or Gianvi) actually slows down how fast your body clears caffeine. Since green coffee contains caffeine, taking the two together means that caffeine can hang around longer and build up more than it normally would.

In real life, that usually shows up as feeling extra jittery, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. It does not make your birth control less effective, so you're still protected. This is a moderate, fairly likely interaction, but the fix is simple: be mindful of your total caffeine, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a concentrated green coffee supplement.

Here's the simple version: your birth control pill (the Yasmin/Gianvi type) doesn't make green coffee weaker or stronger. It works the other way around. The estrogen in your pill slows down how fast your body clears caffeine, and green coffee contains caffeine. So caffeine can hang around longer and build up a bit more than it normally would.

In real life, that mostly means you may feel the usual caffeine stuff more easily: jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. This isn't dangerous for most people, and it doesn't make your birth control less effective. If green coffee leaves you wired or anxious, ease up on it or other caffeine sources, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're unsure.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
