Green Coffee and Isopropamide, Prochlorperazine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

PHENOTHIAZINES

Why this applies to Isopropamide, Prochlorperazine

Isopropamide, Prochlorperazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, phenothiazines might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Phenothiazines can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about Combid (which combines prochlorperazine and isopropamide) and green coffee. The prochlorperazine part can mildly slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which happens to be the same enzyme your body uses to clear caffeine. Since green coffee naturally contains caffeine, the worry is that caffeine could hang around a little longer than usual.

In practice, this could mean more of the jittery, caffeine-type effects: a racing heart, feeling wired, trouble sleeping, or a touch of restlessness. That said, this is a minor, mostly theoretical concern based on lab data, not strong human studies. A regular cup of coffee likely won't cause trouble, but concentrated green coffee supplements deserve a quick chat with your pharmacist first.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
