Green Coffee and Liraglutide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Liraglutide

Liraglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, taking green coffee and antidiabetes drugs might interfere with blood glucose control.
In clinical research, green coffee extract results in modest reductions in blood glucose levels in various populations. However, other reports claim that caffeine might increase or decrease blood sugar levels.
Severity Minor Likelihood Unlikely Evidence B

Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist with Victoza (liraglutide) and green coffee: this is really about your blood sugar, not about green coffee changing how your body handles the injection. Liraglutide doesn't get broken down by the liver enzymes that some supplements mess with, so green coffee won't make it stronger or weaker in that sense.

The catch is that green coffee may nudge blood sugar on its own. The chlorogenic acid might lower it a touch, while the caffeine can push it either way. Stacked on top of liraglutide, that could make your numbers a little harder to predict. Honestly, the evidence here is weak and mostly theoretical, so this is a minor concern. If you choose to use green coffee, just keep an eye on your glucose readings and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Liraglutide page

“If you take liraglutide (Victoza), the ingredient to know first is Siberian cocklebur, the only major-rated interaction of the 239 on this page. Its seeds have caused severe hypoglycemia in people, dangerously low blood sugar, and liraglutide already pushes glucose down.”

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
