Here's the gist with Norco or Vicodin (acetaminophen plus hydrocodone): the hydrocodone part is an opioid that already slows down your brain and body. It can make you drowsy, foggy, and slow your breathing. Rauvolfia vomitoria has its own calming, sedating effect, at least in animal studies, so stacking the two could in theory leave you more sleepy, dizzy, or sluggish than you'd expect.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on how these things behave, not on solid human studies. Still, this plant is a powerful one and not a casual supplement. Before combining them, please check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can look at your full picture.

Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, Rauvolfia vomitoria might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the wrinkle with this combo. The hydrocodone in Vicodin or Norco is actually a prodrug, meaning your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn part of it into hydromorphone, which is the stronger pain-relieving form. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a small amount of yohimbine, and lab studies (test-tube only, not people) hint that yohimbine can slow down CYP2D6.

If that happened in real life, it could mean less conversion to the active form, so you might get weaker pain relief than expected. Honestly though, this is theoretical and based on very weak evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, Rauvolfia is a potent plant on its own, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
