The combination here is called Darvocet, which pairs acetaminophen with propoxyphene, an opioid pain reliever. Like other opioids, propoxyphene can make you feel drowsy, foggy, or slow. Rauvolfia vomitoria has its own calming, sedating effect (seen mostly in animal studies), so putting the two together could, in theory, leave you feeling sleepier or more sluggish than either one alone.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not strong human evidence. Still, with an opioid involved, I'd play it safe. Watch for extra drowsiness, dizziness, or trouble staying alert, especially before driving. If you're considering this plant alongside your pain medicine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, Rauvolfia vomitoria might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the short version. Rauvolfia vomitoria root contains tiny amounts of yohimbine, and in lab dish studies yohimbine can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Your body uses CYP2D6 to help process propoxyphene, the opioid pain reliever in Darvocet. If that enzyme is partly blocked, propoxyphene could linger and build up a bit, which in theory might mean more of its effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, or slowed breathing in higher amounts.

That said, this is very much a theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, not real patients, so don't panic. Still, since opioids and blood-pressure-altering herbs are both serious, please run this combination by your pharmacist or doctor first.
