Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Telmisartan, Amlodipine
Telmisartan, Amlodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Let me put your mind at ease here. Your Twynsta combines two blood pressure medicines, and the amlodipine half is partly broken down by an enzyme in your body called CYP3A4. Yerba mate, in lab dish studies, seems to slow that enzyme down a little. In theory, that could let amlodipine build up slightly, which might nudge its effects a bit stronger, things like swollen ankles, flushing, lightheadedness, or a slightly lower blood pressure than usual.
That said, this is graded as a minor interaction based only on test-tube research, not real people. Enjoying mate in normal amounts is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you drink it daily and large amounts, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

About Yerba Mate
What is Yerba Mate?
- Energy and alertness
- Weight loss
- Mental focus
- Digestive support
- Antioxidant support
Yerba mate is a caffeine-containing herbal beverage from South America that is widely enjoyed for its stimulating, coffee-like effects. While it is rich in antioxidants and is being studied for weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol, strong human evidence for most health claims is limited. Drinking very hot mate over many years has been linked to higher risk of certain cancers, so enjoy it warm and in moderation.
