Why this applies to Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine

Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase stimulant adverse effects.
Coffee contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence C

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

The piece that matters here is the pseudoephedrine in this combo. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that mildly stimulates your system, and coffee's caffeine does something similar. When you stack the two, the stimulant effects can add up. So you might notice more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, restlessness, or feeling wired or anxious.

This is a theoretical caution based on expert opinion rather than hard studies, so it isn't a dangerous combination for most healthy folks. A morning cup of coffee likely won't be a problem. Several large coffees or energy drinks on top of this medicine is where you'd more likely feel it. If you have high blood pressure, heart issues, or notice these symptoms, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine page

“Rezira and P-V-Tussin pair hydrocodone, an opioid, with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant, so the 241 supplements here pull in two directions and I would handle this combination with real care. Most entries either deepen the opioid's sedation (78 ingredients are CNS depressants, alcohol included) or stack stimulant effects onto the pseud…”

  • Weight management

Coffee is a widely consumed beverage made from roasted coffee beans, valued mainly for its caffeine, which boosts alertness and energy. People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or sensitive to caffeine should limit their intake and check with a doctor or pharmacist.
