Green Coffee and Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 2 Interactions?

Green Coffee interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Green Coffee in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine

Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, green coffee may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, caffeine in green coffee might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans. There is some evidence that caffeinated coffee might increase the fibrinolytic activity in blood.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D

Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing with combos like Excedrin, which already pack aspirin plus caffeine. Aspirin is the part that thins your blood a bit by keeping platelets from clumping. On paper, the caffeine in green coffee may add a small extra antiplatelet nudge of its own, so theoretically you could see a slightly higher chance of bleeding or easy bruising when the two are taken together.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these ingredients behave in the lab, not something that has actually shown up in people. For most folks taking occasional Excedrin, it's very unlikely to cause trouble. Just watch for unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset, and run it by your pharmacist if you use either one regularly.

STIMULANT DRUGS

2 of 2

Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase stimulant adverse effects.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence C

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: products like Excedrin already pack in caffeine right alongside the acetaminophen and aspirin. Green coffee brings its own caffeine to the party too. So when you take them together, you're really just stacking caffeine on top of caffeine.

That extra stimulant load is what might make you feel jittery, anxious, or shaky, or give you a racing heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. This is a theoretical concern based mostly on expert opinion, not hard studies, so it's about comfort more than danger for most healthy people. Still, if you're sensitive to caffeine or notice your heart pounding, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before pairing the two regularly.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
