Theoretically, taking green coffee with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Consensi is a combo pill: amlodipine lowers your blood pressure, while celecoxib eases pain and inflammation. The green coffee question really centers on the amlodipine side. Some small studies suggest green coffee can nudge blood pressure down a bit on its own, mostly thanks to its chlorogenic acid. So in theory, pairing it with amlodipine could stack those effects and drop your pressure a little more than expected.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. Honestly though, this is a minor, mostly theoretical concern, and it hasn't clearly shown up in real research. Watch out too for the caffeine in green coffee. If you're already taking Consensi, just check with your pharmacist before adding a concentrated supplement.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Amlodipine, Celecoxib page

“Grapefruit is the risk I would want a Consensi patient to grasp first. Consensi pairs amlodipine and celecoxib to treat high blood pressure and arthritis pain, and grapefruit blocks the enzyme that clears amlodipine, raising its levels.”

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
