Here's the thing to know with your NuvaRing. The estrogen part (ethinyl estradiol) can slow down how your liver clears caffeine. Green coffee naturally contains caffeine, so the two together can let caffeine linger longer in your system than it normally would.

In real life, that usually means the everyday caffeine jitters feel stronger or last longer: a racing or pounding heart, feeling wired or anxious, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. This won't make your birth control less effective, and small, food-like amounts of coffee are unlikely to cause trouble. The concern is more with concentrated green coffee supplements. If you notice you're feeling extra jittery, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so you can adjust your caffeine intake.

CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS

Etonogestrel, Ethinyl Estradiol also falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the effects and adverse effects of caffeine found in green coffee.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Oral contraceptives decrease the rate of caffeine clearance by 40% to 65%.

Here's an interesting twist with the NuvaRing. The hormones in your ring (etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) actually slow down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40% to 65%. So this isn't your birth control losing its punch. Instead, it's the caffeine in green coffee that sticks around longer and hits harder.

In practice, that means a green coffee supplement could leave you feeling more wired than usual, with jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. The amount of caffeine varies a lot between products, so concentrated supplements matter more than a small culinary serving. If you notice these effects, it's worth chatting with your pharmacist about dialing back the dose.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
