Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine, especially in excessive amounts, can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.

Here's the gist with your Lopressor HCT (that's metoprolol paired with hydrochlorothiazide). The water pill part, hydrochlorothiazide, already tends to push potassium levels down. Green coffee carries caffeine, and in larger amounts caffeine can nudge potassium lower too. So the worry is that the two together might add up and leave your potassium a little too low.

I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how these things work, not strong patient studies. Still, if potassium drops, you could feel muscle cramps, weakness, fatigue, or notice an irregular heartbeat. A regular cup of coffee likely won't tip the scales, but concentrated green coffee supplements are a different story. Mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, and they can check your potassium if needed.

Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.

Here's the simple version: your Lopressor HCT combines two blood pressure medicines, a water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) and a beta-blocker (metoprolol). Green coffee may nudge your blood pressure down a little on its own, thanks to its chlorogenic acid. So in theory, pairing the two could lower your numbers a bit more than expected.

If that happens, you might notice lightheadedness, dizziness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and the evidence is on the weaker side, so it's not a big alarm. Green coffee also has caffeine, which can slightly bump blood pressure the other way. If you'd like to try it, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your readings.
