Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: levalbuterol (Xopenex) is a fast-acting rescue inhaler that opens up your airways. One of its known side effects is a little extra stimulation of the heart, so you may notice a faster heartbeat, some fluttering, or a jittery, shaky feeling. Green coffee carries caffeine, which is also a stimulant. Put the two together and those heart-related and jittery effects could theoretically stack up and feel stronger.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's based on how these two work in the body, not on solid human studies, so for most people it's a mild, manageable concern. A normal cup of coffee is unlikely to be a problem, but concentrated green coffee supplements add up faster. If you feel a racing heart or extra jitters, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Levalbuterol page

“Almost the entire interaction list for levalbuterol (Xopenex) comes down to caffeine. The inhaler already gives the heart a mild stimulant nudge while it opens the airways, and large amounts of caffeine, whether from everyday drinks or herbal energy ingredients, can amplify that push into a racing or pounding heartbeat.”

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
