Why Are There 2 Interactions?

ESTROGENS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol

Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol falls under ESTROGENS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, estrogens might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Here's the thing to know about your Ortho Evra (Evra) patch and green coffee. This combination doesn't really change how well your birth control works. Instead, it works the other way around. The estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) in your patch slows down how fast your body clears caffeine, and green coffee supplements contain caffeine. So the caffeine can hang around longer and hit you harder than usual.

In plain terms, you might feel more jittery, notice a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or a touch of anxiety, especially with concentrated supplement doses. This is a moderate, fairly likely interaction but not dangerous for most people. If you notice these effects, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about cutting back rather than stopping your patch.

CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS

2 of 2

Norelgestromin, Ethinyl Estradiol also falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the effects and adverse effects of caffeine found in green coffee.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Oral contraceptives decrease the rate of caffeine clearance by 40% to 65%.

Here's the thing to know about your Ortho Evra (or Evra) patch and green coffee: this one works in the opposite direction from what most people expect. Your birth control isn't the one being affected here, the caffeine in green coffee is. The estrogen in your patch actually slows down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40% to 65%. So a green coffee supplement (which contains caffeine) may hit you harder and linger longer.

In real life that can mean more jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious or shaky. Your contraception should still work just fine. If you notice these stimulant effects, cutting back on caffeine usually helps. Chat with your pharmacist if you're unsure about dosing.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
