These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Rauvolfia Vomitoria in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Major).
STIMULANT DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine
Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.
Yohimbine, a constituent of Rauvolfia vomitoria, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking Rauvolfia vomitoria with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the piece that matters with this combo: it's the caffeine in your Excedrin that's the concern, not the acetaminophen or aspirin. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains yohimbine-like compounds that can stimulate the body and nudge blood pressure upward. Stack that on top of caffeine, which is itself a stimulant, and you may get more of the jittery, stimulant-type effects piled together.
In real life that could mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, feeling wired or anxious, trouble sleeping, or a bump in blood pressure. I'll be honest, this warning is theoretical, based on how these compounds work rather than strong studies, so don't panic if you've already taken them together. Still, Rauvolfia is a potent plant, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, especially if you have high blood pressure or heart concerns.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
2 of 2Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of yohimbine. Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine in doses of 8 mg or more seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria itself are unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about combining Rauvolfia vomitoria with Excedrin-type products: the aspirin in those tablets already thins the blood a little by making your platelets less sticky. Rauvolfia contains tiny amounts of yohimbine, and in lab studies higher yohimbine doses seemed to lightly nudge platelets in the same direction. So in theory, you could get a small additive blood-thinning effect, meaning slightly easier bruising or a bit more bleeding from a cut.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is rated minor and is purely theoretical, based on pharmacology rather than real-world cases, and the effect of the whole plant isn't well understood. For most people taking occasional Excedrin, this isn't a big worry. Still, if you use Rauvolfia regularly or have a bleeding condition, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.
