Here's the simple version. The codeine part of your aspirin-codeine product is an opioid that already slows down the brain a bit, which is why it can make you feel drowsy, foggy, or relaxed. Rauvolfia vomitoria has its own calming, sedative-like effects (mostly seen in animal studies), so putting the two together could, in theory, stack that drowsiness on top of each other.

What that might look like: more sleepiness, dizziness, slowed thinking, or feeling unsteady on your feet. This is a theoretical concern based on how the plant behaves, not strong human proof, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since rauvolfia is a potent plant, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't drive until you know how you feel.

Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the wrinkle with this combo: the codeine part of your medicine is a prodrug. Your body has to switch it on using an enzyme called CYP2D6, and that's what turns codeine into morphine, the part that actually relieves pain. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a little yohimbine, which in lab studies can block that same enzyme.

If that blocking happened in real life, your body might convert less codeine into morphine, so you could get weaker pain relief from it. The aspirin side wouldn't be affected this way. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, so it may not amount to much in practice. Still, before pairing these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, combining Rauvolfia vomitoria with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might have additive effects.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of yohimbine. Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine in doses of 8 mg or more seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria itself are unclear.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combination. Your medication pairs aspirin, which is a blood thinner that keeps platelets from clumping, with codeine for pain relief. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a small amount of yohimbine, and in lab studies yohimbine can also make platelets a little less sticky. So in theory, taking the two together could add up and make your blood slightly slower to clot.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This is a theoretical concern based on how the compounds behave, not from real-world cases, and the effect of Rauvolfia itself is unclear. Still, if you ever notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that won't stop, loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.
