This combination product pairs aspirin with hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever that already makes many people feel drowsy or foggy. Rauvolfia vomitoria has its own calming, sedative-type effects, at least in animal studies. So the worry here is simple addition: putting two things that slow you down together could leave you more sedated than you expect.

In practice that might look like extra sleepiness, dizziness, slowed thinking, or feeling unsteady on your feet. I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not something proven in people. Still, opioids deserve respect, so please don't combine them without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first, especially before driving.

Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the thing about this combo product: the hydrocodone part actually depends on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn into its more potent pain-relieving form. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a little yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could mean less of the strong pain relief you'd expect from hydrocodone, since your body wouldn't convert it as efficiently.

I want to be honest with you though: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, so it's a fairly weak, theoretical concern. The aspirin part isn't affected this way. Given that rauvolfia is a powerful plant with its own serious blood pressure and nervous system effects, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

Theoretically, combining Rauvolfia vomitoria with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might have additive effects.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of yohimbine. Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine in doses of 8 mg or more seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria itself are unclear.

Here's the gist for your Lortab ASA (which is aspirin plus hydrocodone). The aspirin part already thins the blood a little by keeping platelets from clumping. Rauvolfia vomitoria carries small amounts of yohimbine, and in lab studies higher doses of yohimbine also nudged platelets in that same anti-clumping direction. So in theory, the two together might stack up and make you a touch more prone to bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach irritation and bleeding.

I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on how the compounds behave, not real-world cases, and the amount of yohimbine in the plant is tiny. The bigger reason to be cautious is that this herb strongly affects blood pressure and mood. Please run it by your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
