Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with diuretics might increase diuresis.
Some preliminary clinical research in adults with hypertension shows that chanca piedra has diuretic properties. However, higher quality research in adults with kidney stones shows taking chanca piedra does not increase urine volume when compared with placebo. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking diuretic drugs.

Your Capozide already contains a water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) that makes you urinate more to lower blood pressure. The concern here is simple addition: chanca piedra has been studied as a mild diuretic too, so in theory it could nudge that fluid-losing effect a little further. I'll be honest with you, this is a theoretical worry based on how the herb might behave, and the better-quality research actually showed it did not increase urine output, so I don't want to alarm you.

If anything did stack up, you might notice signs of losing too much fluid or salt: lightheadedness when standing, dizziness, extra thirst, leg cramps, or feeling more drained than usual. Before adding chanca piedra, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your blood pressure and electrolytes.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Here's the gist: your Capozide already does two jobs to lower blood pressure. The captopril part relaxes your blood vessels, and the hydrochlorothiazide part flushes out extra salt and water. Chanca piedra may, in theory, nudge your blood pressure down a little too, so stacking it on top could add to that effect.

Honestly, this is a fairly mild concern. It's based mostly on animal studies, and in a small human trial, people taking blood pressure medicine didn't really show this drop over 10 days. Still, if you do try chanca piedra, keep an eye out for feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, especially when you stand up. Check in with your pharmacist or doctor first, and don't change your medication on your own.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone — their effects are approximately additive.

The combination tablet may be used as a starting treatment or substituted when a patient has already been stabilized on the individual ingredients separately. It is generally suitable for patients with normal kidney function; patients with impaired kidney function should only use it when other treatments haven't worked or have caused unacceptable side effects.
