Here's the gist: salmeterol is a long-acting inhaler that relaxes your airways, but like other beta-agonists it can gently rev up the heart. Caffeine in coffee does a bit of the same thing. So when you combine a lot of coffee with your inhaler, the two effects may add up, possibly leaving you feeling jittery, shaky, or aware of a faster or pounding heartbeat.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's a theoretical concern based on how both work, not something proven to cause real harm in studies. A normal cup or two with breakfast is unlikely to be a problem for most people. If you tend to drink a lot of coffee or already notice palpitations, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than changing anything on your own.

What Is Salmeterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Serevent

Serevent Diskus (salmeterol inhalation powder) is used for three main purposes: treating asthma in patients aged 4 and older alongside an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), preventing exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients aged 4 and older, and providing long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD — including chronic bronchitis and emphysema — in adults.

Important: Serevent Diskus is not a rescue inhaler. It will not relieve a sudden asthma or COPD attack. For asthma, it must always be used together with an inhaled corticosteroid — using it alone for asthma is contraindicated due to a serious risk of asthma-related death.
