Green Coffee and Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 2 Interactions?

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine

Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, green coffee may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, caffeine in green coffee might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans. There is some evidence that caffeinated coffee might increase the fibrinolytic activity in blood.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D

Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo product. One of its ingredients, aspirin, already thins the blood a bit by making your platelets less sticky. Green coffee contains caffeine, and on paper caffeine seems to have a mild platelet-slowing effect of its own. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk up a little. That might show up as easier bruising, a nosebleed that takes longer to stop, or stomach upset.

I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not something that's actually been reported in people. For most folks it's unlikely to cause trouble. Green coffee also adds to your total caffeine, which can worsen the jitteriness this product can already cause. If you take it regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

STIMULANT DRUGS

2 of 2

Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase stimulant adverse effects.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Probable Evidence C

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: this combination product already has caffeine built right into it. Green coffee also carries its own caffeine, plus chlorogenic acid. So when you take both together, you're really just stacking caffeine on top of caffeine. That extra stimulant load can leave you feeling jittery, anxious, or restless, with a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, and sometimes an upset stomach.

This is mostly an expert-opinion, theoretical concern, not something proven by strong studies, so don't panic. The amount in a normal cup of coffee is usually no big deal, but concentrated green coffee supplements pack more caffeine. If you notice the buzzy side effects piling up, ease off the supplement and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
