Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine, especially in excessive amounts, can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.

Your medication pairs chlorthalidone, a water pill, with clonidine for blood pressure. Here's the thing to know about green coffee: it carries caffeine, and caffeine can nudge potassium out of your bloodstream. Chlorthalidone already does the same thing, since water pills are well known for lowering potassium. Put them together and, in theory, your potassium could dip a bit lower than it would otherwise.

I'll be straight with you, this concern is theoretical and based on how these things work, not on strong studies. Low potassium can show up as muscle cramps, weakness, fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat. A regular cup of coffee likely won't matter much, but concentrated green coffee supplements add up. Mention it to your pharmacist or doctor, since they may already be checking your potassium.

Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.

Your combination pill pairs chlorthalidone (a water pill) with clonidine (which relaxes blood vessels), and both work to bring your blood pressure down. Some small studies suggest green coffee can nudge blood pressure a little lower too, thanks to its chlorogenic acid. So in theory, stacking them could add up and drop your pressure more than expected.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or wobbly when you stand up quickly. Honestly, this is a minor concern and hasn't been clearly shown in real-world studies. A regular cup or two of coffee is unlikely to matter much, but concentrated green coffee supplements are a different story. If you'd like to try one, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your readings.
