Green Coffee + Furosemide
Furosemide brand name: Lasix.
Furosemide falls into 2 drug categories that Green Coffee can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the risk of hypokalemia.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Green Coffee interacts with whole categories of medication. Furosemide falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Green Coffee in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
DIURETIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Furosemide
Furosemide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.
Green coffee can contain caffeine. Caffeine, especially in excessive amounts, can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Furosemide (Lasix) already pushes potassium out through your urine. That's one of its most common effects. Green coffee contains caffeine, and caffeine can also nudge potassium a bit lower. So the worry is that stacking the two together could drop your potassium more than either one alone.
I'll be honest, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not strong proof from studies. Still, low potassium can cause real symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat. If you take Furosemide regularly and want to use a concentrated green coffee supplement, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your potassium. An occasional cup of coffee is far less of an issue.

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
2 of 2Furosemide also falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS.
Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: furosemide (Lasix) already lowers your blood pressure by pulling extra salt and water out through your urine. Green coffee, thanks to its chlorogenic acid, may nudge blood pressure down a little on its own. Put the two together and the effects could in theory add up, leaving your pressure lower than expected.
If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or woozy when you stand up, especially since furosemide can already leave you a bit dehydrated. That said, this is mostly a theoretical concern, and studies haven't actually proven it happens. A cup of coffee is unlikely to matter, but concentrated green coffee supplements are a bigger unknown. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding one.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Furosemide page
“Yellow dock is where I would start with furosemide (Lasix). This water pill already flushes potassium, and heavy yellow dock use can compound that loss, one of nine major-rated interactions on a list of 227 that deserves genuine care.”

About Green Coffee
What is Green Coffee?
- Weight loss
- High blood pressure
- Blood sugar control
- Antioxidant support
- General energy
Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
About Furosemide
What Is Furosemide Used For?
Brand name: Lasix
Furosemide tablets and oral solution are used in adults and children to treat edema (fluid buildup) caused by congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome. In adults, oral furosemide is also used to treat high blood pressure, alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.
Furosemide injection is reserved for patients who cannot take oral medicine or for emergency situations such as acute pulmonary edema (sudden dangerous fluid in the lungs). Furoscix (subcutaneous injection) is specifically indicated for edema in adults with chronic heart failure or chronic kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome, and in pediatric patients weighing at least 43 kg. Lasix Onyu (subcutaneous injection) is indicated for edema in adults with chronic heart failure only.
