Bexarotene falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the idea behind this one. Your body clears bexarotene using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab studies suggest hemp may speed up that enzyme. If that happened in real life, your body could break down bexarotene a little faster, which might lower its blood levels and possibly make it work less well against your cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from test-tube research only, not from people taking hemp and bexarotene together, and it's rated a minor interaction. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, because bexarotene treats a serious condition, check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any concentrated hemp supplement.

What Is Bexarotene Used For?

Brand name: Targretin

Bexarotene capsules (brands: Bexarotene, Targretin) are used to treat the skin symptoms of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) in patients whose disease has not responded to at least one prior systemic treatment.

Bexarotene gel 1% (brands: Bexarotene, Targretin) is used to treat the skin lesions of early-stage CTCL (Stage IA and IB) when other therapies have not worked or could not be tolerated. The gel is a topical therapy and is not intended for systemic use.
