Here's the gist for Cotellic (cobimetinib). Your body clears this cancer medicine using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that hemp might speed that enzyme up a bit, which could in theory lower the amount of cobimetinib in your blood. If that happened, the drug might not work as well against the melanoma or histiocytic condition it's treating, and that's the real concern with a cancer therapy.

I want to be straight with you, though: this is based only on test-tube research, not real patients, and it's rated as a minor, possible interaction. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is very unlikely to matter. Still, since cobimetinib is a serious medicine, please run any concentrated hemp supplement past your oncology pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

About Cobimetinib

What Is Cobimetinib Used For?

Brand name: Cotellic

Cobimetinib is approved for two uses in adults. First, it is used in combination with another drug called vemurafenib to treat melanoma (a type of skin cancer) that cannot be surgically removed or has spread to other parts of the body — but only when the tumor carries a specific genetic change called a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation. A lab test must confirm this mutation before treatment begins.

Second, cobimetinib can be used on its own (as a single agent) to treat adults with histiocytic neoplasms — a rare group of cancers involving immune cells called histiocytes.
