Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir Ritonavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist for Technivie (ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir): part of this combo is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest hemp might nudge that enzyme to work faster. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the medicine a bit quicker, which in theory could lower its blood levels and make it work less well against the hepatitis C virus.

Now, the honest part: this is based only on test-tube research, not on people, so it's a weak, theoretical concern. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated hemp supplements are more of a question mark. Since finishing your full hep C course matters a lot, just run any hemp product by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir, and Ritonavir Used For?

Brand name: Technivie

  • The combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir is usually used in combination with ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol), but sometimes it is used alone to treat a certain type of chronic (long-term) hepatitis C infection (swelling of the liver caused by a virus). Ombitasvir is a hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5A inhibitor. It works by stopping the virus that causes hepatitis C from spreading inside the body. Paritaprevir is a protease inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of HCV in the body. Ritonavir is a protease inhibitor. It helps to increase the amount of paritaprevir in the body so that the medication will have a greater effect. It is not known if ombitasvir, paritaprevir, or ritonavir prevent the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
