Vicoprofen pairs the opioid hydrocodone with the anti-inflammatory ibuprofen. The part that matters here is the hydrocodone, which already tends to make people drowsy and relaxed. Rauvolfia vomitoria has shown sedative, calming effects in animal studies, so the concern is simply that two sedating things stacked together could add up.

If they pile on, you might feel extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or lightheaded, and in stronger cases breathing can slow down. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical caution based on how these compounds behave, not solid human proof. Rauvolfia can also lower blood pressure on its own. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the wrinkle with Vicoprofen, which pairs hydrocodone with ibuprofen. The hydrocodone part is actually a prodrug for some of its pain relief. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert hydrocodone into hydromorphone, a stronger active painkiller. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains a little yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that same CYP2D6 enzyme.

If that enzyme is blocked, your body may make less of the stronger active form, so in theory you could get less pain relief from this medicine. Keep in mind this is based only on test-tube data, not human studies, so the real-world effect is uncertain. Before combining these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, since this herb is potent on its own.

Theoretically, combining Rauvolfia vomitoria with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might have additive effects.
Rauvolfia vomitoria contains small amounts of yohimbine. Research in healthy adults shows that taking yohimbine in doses of 8 mg or more seems to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro by binding to the alpha-2 adrenoceptor. The effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria itself are unclear.

Here is what is going on with Vicoprofen, which is a combination of hydrocodone (an opioid pain reliever) and ibuprofen (an NSAID). The ibuprofen part already has a mild blood-thinning effect because it temporarily affects how your platelets clump together. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains tiny amounts of yohimbine, which in lab studies showed a similar platelet-slowing effect. So in theory, taking them together could add up and make it slightly easier to bruise or bleed.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not on real-world cases. The actual effect of the whole plant is unclear, and the risk is rated minor. Still, since Rauvolfia is a potent herb, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
