ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Insulin Lispro Recombinant
Insulin Lispro Recombinant falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.
Preliminary clinical research shows that drinking a beverage containing Rauvolfia vomitoria foliage and bitter orange fruit lowers blood glucose levels. Hypoglycemic effects of Rauvolfia vomitoria have also been demonstrated in an animal diabetic model.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Humalog (insulin lispro) is your fast-acting mealtime insulin, so its whole job is to bring blood sugar down quickly. The concern here is simple addition: some early research suggests Rauvolfia vomitoria may also lower blood glucose on its own. Stack that on top of your insulin and the two effects could add up, nudging your sugar lower than you intended.
If that happens, you might notice classic low blood sugar signs like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, dizziness, confusion, or sudden hunger. Keep in mind this warning is theoretical, based mostly on lab and animal data plus one small human study, so it is not a sure thing. Still, please don't change your insulin on your own. Check in with your doctor or pharmacist first, and monitor your readings a bit more closely if you use this herb.

This page covers Rauvolfia Vomitoria only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Insulin Lispro Recombinant page lists 242 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Chelation Therapy Products (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate) and Agaricus Mushroom (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 211 moderate · 29 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Insulin Lispro Recombinant page
“Two of the 242 entries here rate major, and they are the place to start. Siberian cocklebur has caused severe hypoglycemia, and chelation products containing EDTA can drop blood glucose steeply while also interfering with the insulin itself, so neither belongs anywhere near insulin lispro (Humalog KwikPen).”

About Rauvolfia Vomitoria
What is Rauvolfia Vomitoria?
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety and agitation
- Sleep problems
- Mental health symptoms (traditional use)
- Fever and general ailments
Rauvolfia vomitoria is an African shrub whose root contains powerful alkaloids, including reserpine, that have historically been used for high blood pressure and agitation. Because these compounds can strongly affect blood pressure, mood, and the nervous system, the plant can cause serious side effects and is not a casual supplement. Always talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using it.
