Here's the simple version: Valsartan (Diovan) already lowers your blood pressure, and Rauvolfia vomitoria can do the same thing because it naturally contains a small amount of reserpine, an old blood pressure medication. Stack the two together and the effect can add up, so your pressure may dip more than you want.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or even faint, especially when you stand up quickly. I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these compounds work rather than strong studies, but reserpine is a potent ingredient, so I wouldn't shrug it off. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, and don't change your valsartan on your own.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
