Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Fenoldopam
Fenoldopam falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Theanine interacts with.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: fenoldopam (Corlopam) is a powerful IV medicine doctors use in the hospital to bring down dangerously high blood pressure. It works fast and is closely watched with a blood pressure monitor. Theanine, the calming amino acid from tea, may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. In theory, stacking the two could push your pressure down a little more than expected, leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, a faster heartbeat, or flushing.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from animal studies, not people, so it's more of a 'theoretical heads-up' than a proven problem. Since fenoldopam is given under medical supervision, your care team is already adjusting it carefully. Still, mention any theanine you take to your doctor or pharmacist.

About Theanine
What is Theanine?
- Anxiety and stress
- Relaxation and calm
- Sleep support
- Focus and cognitive function
Theanine (usually L-theanine) is an amino acid found naturally in tea leaves that many people take to feel calmer and less stressed without strong drowsiness. Early research suggests it may help with relaxation and stress, but evidence for most uses is still limited. It appears generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

Fenoldopam Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fenoldopam as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Theanine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
