Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.

Here's the short version: pairing L-theanine with your mirtazapine isn't something I'd lose sleep over. Mirtazapine nudges up serotonin and other brain chemicals to lift mood, and theanine may gently touch some of those same messengers. On paper, that overlap raises a theoretical question about too much serotonin activity, but the research on theanine and serotonin is actually all over the map. Some studies say it raises serotonin, others say it lowers it.

The reassuring part is that theanine has never been tied to serotonin syndrome or serotonin-related problems in real life. So this is rated minor and unlikely. Still, if you ever notice extra drowsiness, restlessness, sweating, or a racing heart, loop in your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Mirtazapine Used For?

Brand name: Remeron

Mirtazapine tablets, mirtazapine orally disintegrating tablets, Remeron, and RemeronsолTab are all indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. Major depressive disorder involves a persistently low or sad mood most days, often accompanied by loss of interest, sleep changes, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

The effectiveness of mirtazapine tablets in maintaining a response for up to 40 weeks after an initial treatment period has also been demonstrated. Patients should be reassessed periodically to determine whether continued treatment is needed.
