Escitalopram falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) INHIBITORS — the group Yohimbe interacts with.

CYP2D6 inhibitors may increase the levels and adverse effects of yohimbine, a constituent of yohimbe.
In vitro and clinical research shows that the yohimbe bark constituent, yohimbine, is metabolized by CYP2D6 isoenzymes. Paroxetine, a cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 inhibitor, increases the maximum serum concentration of yohimbine and reduces the clearance of yohimbine compared to yohimbine alone in patients who are extensive CYP2D6 metabolizers..

Here's the thing to know if you're thinking about pairing yohimbe with your Lexapro (escitalopram). Yohimbine, the active part of yohimbe, gets broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Escitalopram is a mild blocker of that same enzyme, so it can slow how fast your body clears yohimbine. That means more yohimbine can build up than you'd expect from the dose on the label.

In real terms, that raises the odds of yohimbine's known troublemakers: a racing or pounding heart, spikes in blood pressure, jitteriness, and anxiety. That last one matters because many folks take escitalopram precisely to ease anxiety, and yohimbe can work against that. I'd recommend checking with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two rather than starting it on your own.

Yohimbe is a West African tree bark that contains yohimbine, a compound mainly promoted for erectile dysfunction and as an aphrodisiac. A prescription form of yohimbine has some evidence for erectile dysfunction, but over-the-counter yohimbe supplements vary widely in content and can cause serious side effects like high blood pressure and fast heart rate. What Is Escitalopram Used For?

Brand name: Lexapro

Escitalopram treats major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and in adolescents 12 years of age and older. It also treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults.

Lexapro (escitalopram) tablets are additionally approved to treat GAD in pediatric patients 7 years of age and older. Escitalopram capsules are indicated for MDD and GAD in adults younger than 65 years of age, and for MDD in pediatric patients 12 and older — but are not for use in adults 65 or older.
